Summary:

Water channels aquaporins play an important role in regulating the flow of water through the plant. The effect of the abscisic acid hormone (ABA) on the activity of aquaporins was shown; however, information about the effect of this hormone on the water channels of the leaf is contradictory. In this paper, we report the effect of ABA on transpiration, water potential, and hydraulic conductivity of the shoot separated from the roots, as well as on the level of PIP2 aquaporins in the leaf of barley plants of the variety Prairia. It was shown that ABA reduces transpiration, but increases water potential and hydraulic conductivity, which is associated with an increase in the level of aquaporins PIP2;1 and PIP2;2 under the influence of this hormone.
