The brief history and background of the study of CRISPR/Cas systems are described, the terminology is given. The diversity of CRISPR/Cas systems and various improved technologies of genome editing are shown. Scientometric analysis of publications in this area is carried out. Examples of editing genomes of several plant species are given. Cited literature contains more than 250 references. The majority of works were published in the last two or three or four years. Only a few articles relating to the history and prehistory of the CRISPR/Cas technology were published earlier.
