Cotton is one of the most important agricultural plants in the world, and there is no doubt that it’s cultivation in Russia is necessary. However, until nowadays breeding methods can't create new varieties of this crop that can produce yield in large areas of our country. So using of modern methods of genetic engineering and genome editing of cotton is relevant. For the successful application of these modern molecular biology techniques requires the development of efficient methods of introducing foreign DNA into the cotton cells and manipulation in vitro culture of cotton tissues and cells. This article is devoted to review of the most available and relatively reproducible methods of genetic transformation of cotton. For transformation of cotton are used methods in planta and in vitro. The elementary method is Agrobacterium-mediated transformation “Pistil Drip”, which does not require special equipment and highly qualified specialists.
