Targeted search for new drugs and analysis of possible mechanisms of action

Year: 2011

Pages: 76-100

Topic: Articles

Summary:

The understanding of therapeutic mechanism of the targeted drug action is one of the biggest problems in modern drug design & development. To the current date, a range of advanced technologies has been discovered and effectively applied to reveal the specific mechanism of drug action as well as possible side-effects and toxicity. Among them, affinity chromatography, protein microchips, phage-based monitoring and Y3H-technology are the most effective methods. A huge amount of research within the title field is carried out using these technologies. This review is specifically focused on the listed approaches and their use in biochemistry and medicinal chemistry.

Keywords:

biological screening, combinatorial synthesis, biological targets, receptors, therapeutic agents, affinity, small molecule ligands, protein microchips, phage monitoring, Y3H-systems
