Risk assessment strategy during obtaining suspension culture of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi

Type: scientific article

Summary:

The coronavirus pandemic led to increased interest toward using the biologically active components of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. However, the unauthorized harvesting of plants in their natural habitat has indicated potential threats to the floral biodiversity. Therefore, in vitro cultivation of plant cells becomes particularly relevant. That approach provides an opportunity to work with plant material without damaging the environment and regardless of the season and climatic conditions. Culturing plant cells under controlled conditions is a sensitive process depending on internal and external factors. In order to reduce the probability of deterioration of quantitative and qualitative indicators of the biomass, we suggest a risk assessment strategy.
