A brief description of the thematic issue dedicated to the jubilee anniversary of the discovery of DNA 150 years ago in the form of a phosphorus-rich compound found in the nuclei of white blood cells of pus by a young Swiss biochemist Friedrich Miescher and called nuclein is given. In addition to the little-known pages of the early history of the study of nuclein and discovery of double helix of DNA, significant attention in this thematic issue is paid to the results of research of these extremely important biopolymer molecules in recent years, including its non-biological application.
