Methods of morphometry in determining the breed of honey bees

Year: 2019

Pages: 167-189

Number: Volume 11, issue 2

Type: scientific article

Summary:

The article combines a brief overview on the morphometry of bees and a draft of generalized guidelines. The available literature data concerning methods for measuring the exterior features of honey bees and analyzing the results obtained in Russia and abroad are analyzed. The systematization and analysis of the software used for classic and geometric morphometry have been carried out. For exterior features currently used at Federal Beekeeping Research Center (Russia), a technique for their measurement is described and illustrations are provided.

Keywords:

geometric morphometry; classic morphometry; honey bee; «Bank of breeds and types»; Apis mellifera
