Effects of plant growth promoting Rhizobacteria on osmotically stressed potato microclones in vitro

Summary:

Effects of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria Azospirillum brasilense Sp245 and Ochrobactrum cytisi IPA7.2 on physiological and morphological characteristics of osmotically stressed potato microclones of Nevsky cultivar in vitro were studied. The stress was produced by means of introducing polyethyleneglycol to nutrient solution for plant growth. It was found that bacterial inoculation of plants under the model stress conditions in vitro promoted plant growth and reparation, and facilitated more rapid decrease of prolin content in plant leaves during the post-stress reparation as well. Increased adaptation capacities of plants in purposefully created plant-microbe associations may be promising in the context of general approaches to nonpolluting agriculture.
