Genomes of treponema pallidum and PCR diagnostics of syphilis

Year: 2011

Pages: 101-111

Number: Том 1, № 1

Summary:

Peculiarities of genome organization for representatives of genus Treponema including repeated regions suitable for strain genotyping are considered. Arguments in favor of recent (516 – 518 years ago) origin of venereal syphilis are adduced. On the basis of nucleotide sequence of 16S and 23S rRNA genes created phylogenetic trees of several treponemal species together with subspecies of Treponema pallidum. Examples of elucidation of pale treponemas via detection some genes with the aid of end-point PCR and real-time PCR.

Keywords:

genome, genomics, syphilis, PCR, real-time PCR, genotyping, Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, T.pallidum subsp. pertenue, 16S rRNA and 23S rRNA genes
